Les, in the north of Bali, is the first town that Ethical and Green is assisting. Les is made up of a number of villages including a hill village that is desperately poor, has only one small primary school, one narrow sealed track from the main village below and very little else.
To date there have been negotiations with the various village councils to identify educational needs and to establish a management system. A two room apartment has been built to house paying guests and any profits from this venture are allocated to the school building program. Additional funds have also been privately allocated to the primary schools by Ethical and Green. To view or book please follow this link.
Another aim of Ethical and Green is to identify talented students for possible scholarships. It is planned to select students who could most benefit from a scholarship, where family assistance is beyond their means. This will be done in consultation with the village authorities allowing those selected to attend senior schools in other regional centres.
Site work by parents' hand labour.
Currently the ‘Top Village’ referred to above has its own ambitious plan to build a small Junior Secondary School that will link into a shift system of teaching and of premises use with the current Primary School. The building plans have been professionally drawn and costed. $10,000AUD is needed to build and equip the school. Work has commenced with donated village and parent labour, however available funds are insufficient to complete the task. Donations are sought and naming rites are also available to a major donor.
